Chris is a Bigger Baby Than Aiden

So Chris had his surgery today to have his bone spurs chiseled down and his big toe nails amputated. During consultation with the podiatrist, Chris decided that he was not about to undergo the surgery as most people would - getting the foot numbed. Nope, he wanted to go under full anesthesia.

I tried telling him not to do the general anesthesia. First off, it's dangerous. Second, he was going to be intubated. Third, general anesthesia makes the surgery/recovery time last longer. And finally, if I can have a child removed from my body while awake, surely he could "nut up" and have his toe nails removed?

Of course, his reaction was "You're not being sympathetic." I would have been more sympathetic had he actually not had general anesthesia. Honestly.

Even the anesthesiologist was surprised Chris chose to be completely asleep. We both tried telling him to take the Versed and the numbing medications. Chris wouldn't hear of it though.

After the operation, Chris was whining that the vitals sensors ripped his chest hair out. Well, d'uh. If he had listened to everyone, he wouldn't have had to been hooked up to the monitor. Then he complained about his throat hurting. D'uh again... He had a tube shoved down his throat. Now he can't talk because his voice is raspy and can barely speak above a whisper.

While we were in post op, he asked for a plastic urinal to piss in. I informed him that he was going to have to stand up and walk before they were going to release him. He wasn't too happy about that.

His mom talked him into bringing the urinal home, so that he would not have to walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night and possibly stub his toes on the walls, the bed or anything else. He was happy with this idea. I however was not. I informed him that when he got in the mornings, he was going to be the one to empty the portable piss pot in the toilet. I so draw the line at bodily fluids.

The post op nurse told Chris he was not going to have as easy of a recovery he was hoping for. As we were loading Chris into the car, the nurse had to give me her sincerest apologies, as she had a big baby at home also. She informed me that it didn't get any easier either.

Anyhoo, here is a picture of the even bigger toes now.

OH Stephanie...you totally crack me up! I am dying laughing here.

I feel sorry for Chris in a way cuz #1...I HATE FEET, unless they are my kids and #2, my feet are very sensitive (unless getting a massage, of course) so I cannot even imagine having my toenails removed. YUCK....CAN I SAY YUCK.

Anyway...hope he gets better soon. What is the recovery time on something like that?
